8 tips for choosing your wedding suit
CONTENTS
Stephan Ricard, co-founder of the brand Samson, gives us today his advice to accompany the future groom in choosing a wedding suit. A tailor specializing in made-to-measure suits for 18 years, he shares his professional expertise with us.
Ready-to-wear or tailor-made, what advice would you give to a future groom?
For such an exceptional day, a tailor-made suit is essential! This choice allows you to define all the elements of the outfit (shirt and accessories) and match them to the costume. It offers a complete freedom to express one's creativity and personality.
By definition, on a ready-to-wear suit everything is already defined. The fabric, the model, the cut, the finishing details. In addition, the offer is often limited, a maximum of ten models per brand.
In our stores, we offer more than 400 fabrics, renewed each season. If you multiply that by the number of possible models, the range of possibilities is immense. It can sometimes be dizzying… . With nearly 18 years of experience, we have developed a very effective method of supporting brides and grooms. A future groom can thus walk through the door of our stores, even without precise ideas. With a few questions about the location and the spirit of his wedding, we will be able to guide him towards the ideal silhouette. In order to devote our full attention to him, we work by appointment.
At the end of this, he will leave with the defined material associations: fabrics of the costume, the lining and the accessories.

What criteria should you take into account when choosing your costume?
The starting point to define is the spirit that the future groom wishes to give to his outfit. I prefer to talk about outfit, rather than just suit. Indeed, it is the combination of the suit, but also the shirt and accessories that will give a successful silhouette. Two identical suits but worn with a tie or a bow tie will tell two completely different stories.
Will your wedding be rural, ultra chic ou clean ? Each mood has its own silhouette. Be careful not to forget to match the spirit of the bride's dress. There will be two of you on the day, in the photo!
A good starting point is choosing what you are going to wear around your neck. Bow tie, tie or even ascot for the most classic. The trendiest remains the bow tie. For the second year, we have an exclusive collaboration, with Le Colonel, a famous bow tie manufacturer. We will be able to take the fabric of the chosen bow, inside the jacket, for a perfect offbeat refinement!
How long does it take to make your wedding suit?
A first appointment can be made 4 to 5 months before the ceremony.. As announced above, samples are given at the end of this. Our bride and groom thus have a few weeks to finalize their choices.
The suit must be launched 8 weeks minimum before the ceremony. This delay is explained by the fact that all our suits are truly made to measure. We start with a roll of fabric that we will cut according to a pattern made for each of our brides and grooms, based on their style choices and measurements. The suit arrives for a fitting, 4 to 5 weeks later. The quality of our measurement method ensures a limited number of alterations. It still takes 2 weeks to make them. We therefore arrive 8 weeks announced.

What are the trends for this year?
For several seasons now, more than a trend, a color has been winning over all the brides and grooms. Blue suits are a must. The palette of blues has thus expanded considerably. A multitude of tones have been added to the subtle nuances of navy. With a little red, for a Indigo blue ; a hint of green, for a blue Duck or a clear and intense blue for un Royal blue. The sky blue are not forgotten, to give your tailor-made suit a fresh and offbeat touch.
In terms of style, the 3-piece suit is a must. It allows you to assert your elegance and, above all, to remain chic, during summer weddings. In high temperatures, it is more comfortable to stay in a waistcoat than to keep your jacket on. This suit is preferably worn with a bow tie to bring a touch of freshness and humor.
Fabrics are generally plain, in the shades of blue described above. But hipster grooms will choose to have their suits tailored in Prince of Wales patterns, which are completely vintage.
Finally, don't forget the return of the tuxedo. The height of it remains masculine elegance, and is modernizing itself by also adopting surprising blues, as in this sky blue version, with contrasting navy reverses.
Si The light gray are still present, new colors are appearing. This is the case of the Bordeaux and green bottle, although these colors are more suited to fall weddings.
Are there any fashion faux pas or unfortunate combinations to avoid? What are the codes to respect?
An often unfortunate method is to pick from different images, elements that we will then try to put together on the same outfit. For example: " I would love a tuxedo jacket that I would wear with colored pants and an ascot! » I'll let you imagine the result!
Another outfit to definitely avoid: the frock coat worn with an embroidered silk waistcoat! Too “2000s”!
Some codes to respect:
- A tuxedo is never worn with an ascot.
- A shirt with a wing collar is only worn with a tuxedo.
- If you want a lavaliere, a waistcoat is essential and preferably in silk.
- Choose small shirt collars, round or pointed, if you wear a bow tie.
- Never mix two patterns on the same groom's outfit. For example, a jacket in a Prince of Wales fabric, worn with a Liberty bow tie.
- Avoid high-crossed vests. The vest should only extend 4 to 5 cm beyond the closed jacket.
- Wear honey shoes with a dark suit.

Wedding costume: Your tips for combining modernity and tradition?
The flagship outfit of our bride and groom is the 3-piece tailor-made suit, worn with a bow tie. It is the perfect alliance between tradition and modernity. Tradition, because a 3-piece suit remains a must-have for masculine elegance. Modernity, by wearing a bow tie, often with a pattern liberty, but also in Wax (African pattern fabric) for the more daring. A completely vintage silhouette and therefore downright trendy.
For the more fashionable: wear a pair of white sneakers with your wedding suit.
Many things are possible, if it is consistent with the wedding. We made for one of our brides, a very successful Bermuda suit because the wedding was taking place on a beach.
Wedding suit: Your advice for choosing accessories?
As mentioned above, the choice of accessories is essential. Especially the one that will be worn around the neck. It will anchor the spirit of the outfit. A lavaliere for a very romantic outfit, a tie for a sober and refined wedding, or a fancy bow tie for a rustic and offbeat touch. We have a wide selection of accessories in store, which allow us to define the combinations of materials and colors during the first meeting.
Another important accessory in the groom's outfit: the pocket square. It can be cut soberly in the fabric of the shirt, or in that of the liberty bow tie, for more fantasy.

Wedding suit: What budget should I plan for creating a custom-made suit?
When we think of a made-to-measure suit, we usually imagine extremely high prices. Samson is the pioneer of affordable made-to-measure suits. Since 1999, we have strived to offer an unmatched quality/price ratio. To achieve this, we have chosen to offer our items in our own stores and to bypass all unnecessary intermediaries. We therefore buy our fabrics directly from Vitale Barberis Canonico, the best Italian weaver. With 6 boutiques and 5000 tailor-made suits sold each year, we are the only ones who can operate this way. Our jackets have a semi-traditional assembly and are not heat-sealed, like the majority of major ready-to-wear brands.
Our tailor-made suits start at 670€, with an average price of 790€. For a 3-piece suit, you must add from 125€ to 165€, for the vest.
A complete, custom-made groom's outfit does not exceed €1000. This explains our success for almost two decades!

Choosing your costume also means choosing support, advice, an experience, a workshop, a world. With my witnesses we had a beautiful, tailor-made and creative experience at Faubourg Saint Sulpice. I recommend
