French Riviera Elegance: an intimate and refined wedding in the heart of Provence
Under the gentle sun of the French Riviera, Rachel and Nick envisioned a wedding that reflected their personalities: elegant, sincere and profoundly joyfulNestled in the hinterland of Grasse, their celebration took place in a setting imbued with Provençal gentleness, among centuries-old olive trees, pale blue shutters and golden light.
Conceived as a weekend of sharing with loved ones from around the world, this wedding blends timeless minimalism with subtly orchestrated details. Toile de Jouy fabric, ever-present live music, the French art of living… every element contributes to creating an atmosphere that is both chic and warm.
Between pure emotion during the vows, suspended moments and festive energy until the end of the night, this report captures the very essence of a successful wedding: a celebration where elegance is lived naturally, and where every memory becomes precious.
The initial meeting
We met in June 2020 – a real lockdown love story. Typically, our first dates were all outdoorsy, with waterfall walks and pizza together beach on a beach in Gower, Wales. And typically we would get lost more often than not.
Their wishes for this wedding
For it to be fun. Good music, good food and good wine. Having a band from welcome drinks right through to late evening was a real staple for the day. It brought good vibes and hopefully kept guests entertained all day. They were excellent!
Where they left off, the saxophonist picked up and carried on the party, which really kept energy up.
And having an eye for the little details too was as important as the bigger requests; they really tied everything together. Whether it was the fans to keep guests cool in the sun or the matchboxes with a pencil design of the venue, they all felt so special.
The wedding venue in the French Riviera
Firstly, we wanted a place that was big enough for all our close family to stay: parents, siblings, aunt’s and uncles. It meant that in the lead up to and after the wedding we were all together.
We also fell in love with how gorgeous the venue was. The olive trees on the grass and the building’s pale blue shutters felt exactly the French vibe we were after.
Ultimately, this meant the grounds were big enough to have all elements of the wedding outside. And the pool was great for a wedding debrief party too the next day.
Wedding planning
The bride had a specific image in mind, wanting timeless minimalism with a French twist. Azzurra, our wedding planner from CC Weddings, really brought this to life.
Together, we had lots of calls from initial planning to the big day. This was especially important as we live in Wales and were reliant on Azzurra to really steer lots of the bigger suggestions.
Wedding Decor & Atmosphere
For the ambience, we were really trying to pull off that blend between classy and fun. That’s why we ended up putting quite a lot of focus on entertainment.
The colour palette was inspired by the classic blue toile de jouy pattern, which to us felt very Mediterranean. Having pattern table clothes with this on was a bit of a signature nod to it.
The stationery was then from a small company in the Netherlands called studio beletterd. They created pale blue linen welcome signs and menus to complement our plans.
And the flowers; they were incredible. Using vases with the toile de jouy pattern, they framed most of the outdoor aspects on the day. We loved them.
The choice of outfits
Bride's outfit
For the bride, Rach knew what she wanted: simple, elegant, but with a few special details, such as a pearl cathedral veil. Rach chose David Emmanuel, who designed Princess Diana’s dress, to help her say yes to the dress.
To be able to have more freedom to dance in the evening, Rach had repurposed her legal ceremony dress into a mini. Sentimental and effective, while sunglasses were a must.
Groom's Attire
For the groom, he kept the same suit as the previous year for the legal ceremony. Dark navy jacket and trousers as staple colours. On the inside of the jacket he had the lyrics of a joint favourite song embroidered.
The most moving memory
For both of us, it was the vows. As we’d done the legal ceremony in the UK, it was really special to write our own vows. Neither of us knew what the other would say, so standing at the bottom of the aisle and hearing it for the first time there and then will be something that stays with us forever.
Having an impromptu second first-dance for the cake cutting was moving for us too. Not many people get to sign off marrying their best friend twice with the day having gone so well. But we can say that.
Their best choice in wedding planning
Again, a shout out for CC Weddings and Azzurra. Having a wedding planner to make sure what we had in mind translated to reality was a must. Everything ran so smoothly on the day.
One of the other reasons was because we both speak broken French at best, so trying to organise a wedding in Grasse with our little knowledge would have led to a very different day, for sure.
Advice from the newlyweds
We’d both say just make sure you enjoy the day and spend time with your new husband/wife. It really is the best.
Otherwise, invest in a good photographer and videographer. The day goes so quickly, so if you have memories to look back on with videos and photos it can be such a fabulous way to relive it.

The budget evolved throughout the organization, but it was absolutely worth it.
Today we have memories for a lifetime.
This allowed us to offer an open bar to our guests, which was important to us, given that they came from the UK, Belgium and even New Zealand.
For the meal, we had planned a sit-down dinner, exceptional canapés with a wheel of risotto, and crepes at the end of the evening.
We don't know the exact cost per person, but the main thing was to offer a memorable experience to our guests. -
