The initial meeting
We met on a dating app in 2015, when we were both living in Brooklyn, New York. Cassidy was a design student and Bastien was on a VIE (international volunteer program). That evening, we met at a local bar and chatted about the French words Cassidy knew. Since then, we've been inseparable.
The marriage proposal
On a beautiful and secluded beach in Costa Rica, Bastien knelt down and asked the question.
The wedding venue
The Seigneury of Bois Benoist It was magnificent in the middle of winter, so we knew it would be even more incredible in the spring. Furthermore, the owners are wonderful people—and amazing chefs—and we loved the layout of the spaces: the lawn, the courtyard, and the indoor rooms allowed our guests to move freely around the grounds throughout the day.
Wedding planning
We organized the wedding from Boston, with a lot of help from Bastien's family members in France. It took about a year. Lots of online research to find vendors and inspiration, then a family effort to finalize the details.
Wedding decoration
We let the location and the French countryside create the ambiance with their natural beauty, adding touches of color through flowers and decorations. It was important for us to keep the decor minimalist to avoid waste.
Cassidy designed the color palette and all the stationery. "I drew a lot of inspiration from design studios and our personal lives, including using typefaces from our hometowns and the sign of the bar where we met. I hand-painted the save-the-dates and table numbers, with lots of encouragement and support from Bastien."
Our sister-in-law Julie is a florist and designed and created all the floral arrangements for the wedding. "I was breathless when I first saw them — they were sublime."
The bride and groom's outfits

Cassidy : I went to Cincinnati, Ohio, with my mother, sisters, and niece to try on dresses over the Christmas holidays. I hadn't planned on buying a dress that day at all—it was just for the fun of the experience. But once I got home, I couldn't stop thinking about that dress. Since it was one-of-a-kind, I called the boutique the next day to buy it. I loved the fabric and how it felt. It was a much more substantial dress than I had envisioned for my wedding, so I chose a second dress for the evening—one that was easier to dance in! My mother and sister lent me their jewelry for the day.
The groom's outfit
Bastien : We had planned to go shopping with my brother and parents during the Christmas holidays. I tried on several suit combinations and quickly chose a navy blue suit with a subtle pattern, my favorite color. Once I'd chosen the blue, it was easy to find a brown belt and matching shoes.
Their most moving memory
Cassidy : I have several… The most moving was having my sister and our friend officiate the ceremony in the garden. They wrote such a sweet and thoughtful text, sharing memories of Bastien and me, from our childhood to our relationship.
The civil ceremony at the town hall the previous Friday, surrounded only by our family and closest friends, was also a very powerful moment: I was incredibly happy to experience something new and exciting, surrounded by those I love.
Finally, when I tried to read part of my vows in French in front of everyone during the ceremony in the garden, I struggled, and Bastien placed his hand on my arm to tenderly encourage me.
Bastien : Seeing Cassidy in front of the mayor of my small village for our civil wedding was truly unforgettable. It's at that moment that you realize an incredible weekend filled with happiness is about to begin, and then you just have to go with the flow.
The preparations, the people who came from different continents, everyone involved, laughing, celebrating, and dancing throughout the weekend—it was surreal. Seeing Cassidy walk in with a huge smile, as my wife, in her wedding dress, filled me with emotion. The brioche dance at midnight, in a beautiful setting, is another memory I often recount and that will always be etched in my mind.
Their best choice in wedding planning
- The Light'Up group It was incredible. Everyone loved them. The atmosphere was exceptional.
- Involve our friends and family (to officiate the ceremony, sing during our entrance, create the flowers, and much more).
- Having booked shuttles for the guests coming from outside: we were reassured to know that everyone would arrive easily.

Relax and enjoy the day — the most important thing is that you marry the love of your life.
