Laure de Sagazan, Bridal Fashion Week NYC
CONTENTS
During my incredible trip to new york, I had the pleasure of meeting Laure of Sagazan. As bubbly as she is talented, Laure is an incredibly sunny woman. And her entire team is in her image! I was totally bowled over by our exchanges of rare simplicity and spontaneity.
Ending this week of Bridal Fashion Week in New York with the show of Laure of Sagazan au Standard Hotel, was just fabulous. True to her retro universe, the designer takes us back to the 30s. A collection with fluid and delicate silhouettes with always this sense of detail that makes all the difference.
To my great pleasure, Laure of Sagazan has devoted some of his precious time to answering a few questions…
Who is Laure de Sagazan behind your label?
Laure de Sagazan is my name, so people tend to put my face on the brand... yet there is enough to take a real class photo as there are so many of us behind Laure de Sagazan!
3 partners, including a man, the only one, in a workshop of around forty women... including 2 exiled on another continent, in New York! A young, gentle, funny, and caring team, the kind that makes you want to go to work every day...

The world of marriage: obvious or an opportunity?
An opportunity that quickly became evident...
First my cousin Mathilde, now a partner, who asked me to make her dress… I was then a ready-to-wear stylist in Paris. Incredible love at first sight for this project which led me to refine a model on paper for several weeks, then see the most beautiful fabrics pass through my hands, which led me to take out all the old retro linens that I had been collecting for years… a real revelation, an obvious fact.
I, who have always loved flea markets, always loved old embroidered blouses, old lace... here I am discovering the craziest of playgrounds.

What vision do you have for your brand?
We moved forward without too much calculation, with the humility of not seeing too big...we didn't have great ambitions at the beginning. However, we did things seriously and with love.
The company is now 6 years old, and it is certain that the vision has evolved since we received an excellent reception from the first collection, which made the company grow at full speed. We have become more professional, we have continued to move forward (distribution, opening franchises, partnerships, etc.), we have had major projects (our NY showroom opened a year ago)… all of this necessarily implies an evolution of the brand. However, we have made sure to evolve without losing any of our values. We have maintained a high level of quality, with beautiful fabrics and beautiful finishes. And above all, we have kept this "small company" atmosphere, caring, with a lot of mutual support between employees.
A showroom in Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon and New York, distributors all over the world. What is your view on this success?
Everything happened naturally, little by little. As a result, we're not necessarily aware of this "strong" image that we could project. I'm especially proud that it's a team adventure, a "crew" that works so well that it takes us far. I'm more than aware that alone with my few sketches, I wouldn't have gone very far...

What were your inspirations for this new 2018 collection?
We immediately thought of the Villa Cavrois, a 1930s modernist villa near Lille, as the location for the 2018 collection shoot. So, I had fun transcribing certain architectural lines into the dresses, and some 30s inspirations. I enjoyed immersing myself in this surreal, ultra-imaginative and poetic era, which I love so much.
Lover, mother, successful working girl, what is your magic potion for skillfully juggling all these roles?
Find the right guy who can help you with everything!!!
