A civil wedding in Paris – Jenna + Geoffrey

Before flying to their religious wedding in Guadeloupe, Jenna and Geoffrey organized a civil wedding in complete privacy in Paris. We find them in their local town hall, where it all begins.

The initial meeting
"We met 8 years ago at a colleague of Geoffrey's. I don't know if it was really chance or if our mutual friends had organized everything, but it was love at first sight for both of us, I was especially won over by his sense of humor."

The marriage proposal
I waited a lot for it during the year of the proposal, during a surprise weekend in Normandy… then during the summer holidays on an island in the Caribbean… Finally he proposed when I was no longer expecting it. We had grafted ourselves onto a trip that my parents were taking to South Africa and at the end of the trip, he found a little romantic spot thanks to the staff of the hotel where we were staying, and there I finally realized what was happening when he got down on one knee.
Civil Marriage in Paris
Once the emotion had passed, we started to think about the place, the style of wedding we wanted. For both of us, it was obvious that we had to get married in Paris (where we met) but also in Guadeloupe (where I was born). Geoffrey has a real crush on my island, he wanted to get married there and for us to go there with his family and friends!
So we decided to have the civil wedding in Paris with our close family and witnesses and 8 months later to have the religious wedding in Guadeloupe, with above all a huge party on the beach.
For Paris, we chose the Brasserie d'Auteuil, because for us it's the best place in our neighborhood, we always felt at home there, the setting and the atmosphere suited us (and before it became the Brasserie d'Auteuil, my parents had an aperitif there for their wedding ;-)

The organization of civil marriage
"We knew that organizing a wedding from a distance was going to be complicated and not easy. So for Paris, we needed something simple, but also a taste of what our wedding in Guadeloupe was going to be like.
For the civil, we organized everything in less than 8 months. After choosing the location for the lunch after the Town Hall, we decided to take the photos with our loved ones in the greenhouses of Auteuil (the tropical side appealed to both of us). To stay within our budget, we preferred not to send paper invitations to our guests for the civil, but to do everything via a website with all the practical information online for the big day.
The decoration of civil marriage
“As a result, the organization and decoration of the lunch was as simple as possible and respected our atmosphere (Thanks to the Brasserie d'Auteuil ☺)
We made the menus and place markers ourselves, and placed a box of Macarons (Ladurée) on the table for each guest. And to end the day, we enjoyed the wedding cake with our guests at our home and decorated the apartment with huge LOVE balloons and flowers in "Tropical" mode.

"My husband's emotion just before we went before the mayor, I'm the most stressed of the couple normally, but there I was the most zen of the two ☺"
Your advice
- Listen to your heart.
- Make the most of the day because it goes by way too quickly.
- Trusting your loved ones: Our witnesses and friends were incredible. Over the two days, they were a great help and they were super involved on D-Day, that is priceless to us.
