Couture Wedding at Beldi Country Club – Megan + Mehdi

Couture Wedding
at the Beldi Country Club
The pandemic has swept away all their certainties. Postponed twice, the organization of Megan and Mehdi's wedding has been an emotional rollercoaster. Organizing a wedding in Marrakech Coming from the United States without a wedding planner was already a serious challenge. When the big day arrived, everything was forgotten. The magic of the moment took over, and in that moment of grace, only love, stronger than anything, shone through.
With the beautiful images ofEric Rene Penoy et Yes Films, Megan tells us…
The initial meeting
Mehdi and I met in 2014 on a dating app. Our first date was over drinks at a neighborhood bar near the art museum—a date I almost completely messed up. That night, we felt something special for each other, but we were at a point in our lives where we wanted, above all, to have fun and enjoy being single.
After a few dates here and there, I initially changed my mind and began relentlessly pursuing him. It wasn't until almost a year after our first date that the pursuit paid off – we officially started building our life together and never looked back.
The marriage proposal
Mehdi did his ask in Prague – a famous place where nobody gets engaged (according to a certain Seth Meyers). We love wandering around new places together and had planned a trip to Europe, where I ironically gave him a hard time all week for not having popped the question yet.
I couldn't have been more delighted or surprised when he put his arm around me and pulled out a ring on the deck. Charles in Prague, during one of the last evenings of the trip.
The wedding venue in Marrakech
Mehdi grew up in Morocco, and since his parents and close family still live there, we decided to organize our wedding in Marrakech. As soon as I discovered Beldi Country Club in my venue search, i knew right away that this was the place where we had to get married. i love everything that is simple, organic et naturally beautiful, I had the deep conviction that Beldi was made for us.
It was also a place where we could easily mixing our Western and Moroccan traditions since the place has hosted countless international marriages, interfaith and / or intercultural (all the inters!) and I knew we would be in good hands.
Wedding planning in Marrakech
Our original date was March 21, 2020. After postponing the date twice, we were very excited to finally celebrate our wedding on November 13, 2021.
We felt extremely lucky to have so many loved ones with us. The day before, we welcomed our families and friends to Marrakech, with a cocktail party at Mandarin Oriental Marrakech. The perfect time for our guests to get to know each other. Between the ethereal grounds, the organic decor, and the warmth of the fire pits, the love felt with all our favorite people in one place was overwhelming. We couldn’t have dreamed of a more magical start to the weekend.
For our wedding, we just hoped to succeed a joyful and harmonious day where our friends and family would feel the love and connection. This was definitely the case. We kicked off the festivities on our wedding day with mint tea and a champagne bar outside Beldi's greenhouse. Then our Western ceremony was conducted in English by my twin sister and Mehdi's brother, and we celebrated Moroccan wedding traditions late into the night.
Wedding decoration
I've never been interested in the perfect wedding decorations and I cared more about beautiful little details that would bring joy. Mehdi and I were charmed by the lush nature of Beldi, its park is full of roses and bougainvillea. We wanted to create an extension towards the interior throughout our dinner and reception.
Our stationery was based on personalized watercolors made by a very nice friend from high school, who started her own wonderful business The Land of La – the mix of bright colors and her pencil stroke added this unique creative touch. It was really beautiful to have these pieces created by such a talented friend.
It was important to us to also include decorative touches that would honor Mehdi's Berber roots.
The bride's outfit
I wore a stole Dear Heart de Carol Hannah for our ceremony, a veil of Carol Hannah and a dress of Shona Joy for our first dance. I found my dress on a whim, when I walked into a bridal shop by myself. I really wasn't a fan of the dress shopping process, nothing appealed to me. Since I hadn't found anything, I stopped by myself at Lovely Bride And I'm so glad I did it. I finally found "the" dress, which was everything I didn't know I wanted.
Carol Hannah She's a timeless and whimsical designer based in New York, and I wish I had 10 more weddings just to have an excuse to wear more of her dresses. My only regret is that because of the pandemic, I didn't have time to get it altered.
Their most moving memory
Above all else, we were both deeply moved to be able to gather so many friends and family to celebrate our wedding. Feeling all that love and seeing all our loved ones together brought with it an immense sense of gratitude that we will cherish forever.
If we had to pick just one moment, we would both say that our ceremony is our favorite memory. After much research on interfaith ceremonies, we designed our own ceremony – it seemed very beautiful to us and it was special to be married by two of our siblings in French and English so that both sides of our family could understand.
Their best choice in wedding planning
Planning a wedding in another country, in another language, without the help of a wedding planner… was not a fantastic experience! I had to accept early on that not every facet or detail would be under my control.
That said, our choices have satisfied us beyond our expectations: our international photographer, Eric Rene-Penoy, and the videographers, Maja and Matic from YesFilmsI am incredibly grateful that I followed my instincts and chose creative artists who are as warm and kind as they are talented. It was like having family members supporting and loving us all weekend, rather than strangers we had just met. If you're getting married, go for these amazing people and talents.
Advice from the newlyweds
The pandemic has truly made us stronger. When things don't go according to plan, it reminds us to be grateful. I've learned to better manage my expectations, and because of that, we were able to live the entire weekend in a place of genuine gratitude and contentment. I think the less you worry about the details and what could go wrong, the happier and more relaxed you're likely to feel. No one will remember the type of flowers on the table or the color of your bridesmaids' dresses, but they will remember the energy and how they felt over the weekend.
I wouldn't wish a pandemic-induced wedding postponed twice on anyone, but Mehdi and I would be lying if we said the experience didn't create silver linings for which we are eternally grateful.
