Summer wedding at the Château de Mouillepied

French fries, a ring, and all the time it took

There are love stories that begin without anyone realizing it. A plate placed on a table, some fries served with a smile, then life taking detours before returning to what truly matters. Clémence and Thibaud's story is one of those that takes its time, unfolds chapter by chapter, and is built with both naturalness and patience.

Their wedding perfectly illustrates this: the choice to let things develop naturally, to savor each step, to turn waiting into a strength. A proposal that lingered for eighteen months, a "yes" finally uttered at the end of a Guadeloupean trail, then two whole years spent imagining a weekend celebration that reflected their personalities.

Au Mouillepied CastleJust steps from their family home, Clémence and Thibaud gathered their loved ones to experience much more than just a day: a timeless moment. A secular ceremony filled with emotion, a refined aesthetic highlighted by sage green and white, details patiently sourced from antique shops, handcrafted stationery, and above all, that precious feeling of a wedding conceived with heart.

through the sensitive images of Camille HuguenotThey open the doors to an elegant, sincere, and profoundly human wedding. A report that celebrates love when it is chosen, built, and shared—without haste, but with infinite precision.

The initial meeting

Our first meeting was at the opening of a restaurant I had renovated (Thibaud), which belonged to my best friend (my best man), and where Clémence worked. She served me fries, and it was love at first sight. Years of uncertainty followed—because Thibaud wasn't available—before we reconnected at a work event. There, Thibaud was available, and so was I. Since April 2018, we've been inseparable.

The marriage proposal

Clémence wanted marriage first. Thibaud wanted a child. So, Thibaud had the proposal ring made, but before it arrived, Clémence announced she was pregnant. Thibaud desperately wanted to propose to Clémence during a trip… Unfortunately, COVID-19 intervened. Clémence literally slept for 18 months with the ring under her mattress before Thibaud could finally pop the question. Their first trip without our daughter was to Guadeloupe. He waited for the only day the forecast predicted rain, and after a day of hiking, he proposed on some rocks above a stream, hoping to hear a "Yes" before putting the ring away safely, lest it fall into the ravine or slip off a rock.

Mouillepied Castle in Charente-Maritime

The venue was close to Clémence's family home, where we had decided to have our civil ceremony. We had a great rapport with the owners (they're fantastic) and fell in love with the place. After the visit, we already had all the steps and the schedule for our wedding perfectly aligned with the venue and our wishes.

Wedding planning

We decided to take two years to plan our wedding ourselves. First, we streamlined our plans (for example, combining a civil ceremony with a secular one), and created Excel spreadsheets for each theme (cocktail hour, stationery, decorations, dinner, flowers, room favors, flower girls/page boys, etc.). We didn't want to leave anything to chance. Instagram and Pinterest became our best friends.

We did things at our own pace, first the venue (who were able to advise us on the caterer), then the wine so that it could "age" a little before the wedding, and finally the other items: photographer, DJ, florist, weekend organization, decoration, stationery, outfits…

We wanted to celebrate not just for one day, but for a whole weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday, as the Château could accommodate a large number of people. Our witnesses and families were a great help on the day itself. They were responsible for organizing Friday evening and also helped us with the decorations, etc.

Thanks to these two years of preparation, we had a truly enchanting wedding weekend!

Wedding decoration

We didn't really have a wedding theme; it was a country estate, and if the weather hadn't prevented it, we would have had dinner outside by candlelight and lanterns. The colors were centered around sage green and white.

The wedding decorations were minimalistWe rented beautiful wooden tables, cross chairs and hunted for 160 plates over 2 years at flea markets! This decoration relied heavily on flowers (only white ones, hydrangea, gypso, eucalyptus…), candles and flea market items we had found such as stepladders, demijohns, mirrors to hang the seating plan.

We had our invitations printed by Rosemood but added a personal touch by applying a wax seal with our initials, which we also used on the table names, guest tags, and seating chart. It was a long process, but a lovely memento of planning together. We hand-wrote the guests' names and made the stationery for the seating chart and table names ourselves.

The bride and groom's outfits

The bride's outfit

Lots of fittings in Paris, Atelier Blanche, Victoire Vermeulen, Laure de Sagazan, Margot Tardits. Even though I'm usually pretty sure of my taste, I had a real panic attack because I couldn't decide whether to stay classic or be daring!

Finally, I absolutely fell in love with my dress. Victory Vermeulen And that headdress! I still dream of wearing it again!

The groom's outfit

Many visits and discussions with Parisian tailors before finding the one who understood my desire to mix a retro style with a touch of quirky modernity.

Their most moving memory

The secular ceremony was an incredible moment. The whole ceremony!

Their best choice in wedding planning

All the service providers (domain owners, caterer, photographer, DJ, florist…) who accompanied us during this day were true professionals, caring, attentive to our wishes and extremely kind.

Advice from the newlyweds

  • Take your time in the organization and surround yourself with the right people.
  • Don't choose your photographer haphazardly. Today, most photographers have websites showcasing their previous work and events. We were immediately drawn to Camille. Since Thibaud is a fan of film photography, Camille's grainy, black and white photos instantly confirmed our choice! It was a no-brainer. And even now, we're thrilled to have these photos to help us remember that wonderful day!
