Industrial wedding in Mexico

In a creative breath, Vanessa and Nazario drew a wedding in their image. Tinted with elegance and extravagance, this dream wedding is like no other. A designer by trade, Vanessa took great pleasure in imagining every detail of this raw atmosphere with a party worthy of the decadent celebrations of the famous Studio 54.

The couple lives in New York. Originally from Mexico, organizing their wedding with their family and friends seems like an obvious choice. The starting point for their organization, an old abandoned textile factory. A completely atypical place that must be invested from A to Z. A titanic work made possible thanks to the help of their wedding planning agency. Vanilla Weddings.

With the incredible images of Eric-Rene Penoy et Luis R. Garza, Vanessa tells us…

Industrial wedding in Mexico

We love to travel and discover other cultures and new places. I love the feeling of entering a place for the first time and being left speechless and amazed. For our wedding, I envisioned a intimate celebration with our loved ones in a place that could leave us speechless.

We live in New York, but we were born and grew up in Monterrey, Mexico. So we decided to get married there, where most of our friends and family are from. We were looking for a place in Monterrey that would make us feel moved and enchanted, like in a dream. That everyone could feel excited to be there.

Our wedding planner, Eli from Vainilla Wedding Planners, offered us this incredible old industrial factory from the 1890s outside the city. It used to be a textile factory, but today it is an abandoned monument.

Since its abandonment, nature has become an integral part of the place. Plants and greenery have started to take over and make it magical and special.

Our wedding was the first one held there. Planning and bringing ideas to life were very important because everything had to be set up from scratch.

Wedding planning in Mexico

From the very beginning of the preparations, our priority was to have a talented creative team who could help us bring our vision to life.

The first 3 people we hired were:

  • The wedding planner
  • The Memorial
  • The photographer

Photography has the ability to freeze time and moments. A photo can frame an emotion. We love movies and photography, so we were looking for a photographer who could capture the day with a poetic narrative. A traveling eye that was able to appreciate and capture every detail, like a movie.

When we saw work Eric-Rene Penoy, we knew right away that we wanted him as our photographer. Since we love old movies, we also collaborated with Luis R. Garza, a super 8 filmmaker who captured the celebration in 8mm. A love story full of nostalgia 🤍

We started planning the wedding 8 months before the dateI made a sketch and a mood board where I included my vision and all the specific references for each moment, from the location, the decoration, the food, the lighting, the flowers… everything.

Wedding decorations in Mexico

As a designer, I was involved in every detail. My main inspiration was The Dutch Golden Age et still lifes. We wanted an intimate ceremony where we could celebrate our love and have a big party with our loved ones.

The space looked exactly like what I had in mind. The place, lit by candlelight, felt like being in another world. The lighting played a very important role. Since the place was outdoors and had no lights, it had to be perfectly arranged. Light can transform a place into something special and monumental. And the atmosphere depends so much on the intensity of the lights. All the lighting in the space, with the candles all over the tables and the shadows on the walls made it seem like there were sculptures of different shapes everywhere. It was like a living dream.

The atmosphere was perfect.

We had six large tables with beautiful linen tablecloths, a gift from our good friend Peter, with beautiful flowers and lit candles. We had 120 guests sitting around large tables, sharing our feast.

This table, inspired by a still life by Pieter Claesz, was decorated with candles, flowers and Mediterranean appetizers (OMG the food was amazing!).

For floral arrangements, I wanted to feel like they were growing wild from the abandoned place. The florist Garden Studio created the magic! The result was incredible. For dessert we had 5 beautiful white cakes beautifully decorated. We wanted this table to be the center of attention.

After dinner we danced to some disco all night long. "The DJ rocked the night!" The party resembled a crazy night at Studio 54 in the 70's.

Choosing the wedding dress

I have very particular tastes. I was looking for a sophisticated and timeless wedding dress that would authentically reflect "me" on my wedding day. When I visited the studio Danielle Frankel in New York, I was amazed. As soon as I saw the dress, I felt like it was made especially for me. I FaceTimed my mom and my best friend and we all cried.

I felt like a goddess in this dress 🤍

The budget for a wedding in Mexico

From the start, we set a precise budget. It's important to have one so you can make informed decisions when planning and choosing suppliers. In the end, our budget was higher than we had anticipated, but it was definitely worth it!

Our wishes and our first dance. We danced to one of our favorite songs (Never Tear Us Apart (from INXS), time stood still. I will cherish this memory forever.
