Pastel wedding in Provence – Maria + Stéphane
CONTENTS
When Xavier Navarro, essential photographer of the French Riviera shares a little of his magic with us, it necessarily brings sparkle to the eyes and the heart.
Maria and Stéphane chose the Var as their wedding land. More than a pretty setting, a romantic setting and poetic newlyweds, it is also a very beautiful love story…
The unusual story of a pretty Russian woman traveling on the Côte d'Azur, an immediate crush on this beautiful region and then a crush on Stéphane, a young man she met in a bar in Cannes. I'll let you enjoy the rest with Maria, who kindly agreed to share their story and their beautiful day...
The initial meeting
“Three years ago, I discovered the South of France during my first trip and I immediately fell under the spell of this beautiful region – the cobbled streets of the picturesque little villages, the scent of lavender, the taste of rosé wine and the little restaurants in the shade of the plane trees…
The last night in Cannes, I was in a bar with my girlfriends, where a French guy caught my attention. We started talking and the rest of the world disappeared, I almost missed my flight back to Russia. For three years, we were counting the days between his trips to Moscow and my trips to Cannes…. and then the time to take the big leap finally arrived!
Pastel wedding at Bastide des Adrets
“The South of France is the perfect place for a wedding. Stéphane and I visited many breathtaking locations, but we finally chose the Auberge des Adrets – a beautiful stone country house with a history dating back to the 17th century.”

Wedding decoration
“The concept and atmosphere of the wedding was very clear to us from the beginning, we wanted blending rustic French chic with Russian culture. We wanted a relaxed and intimate wedding to invite only our closest friends and family. This meant not having a sit-down dinner but two themed buffets – one Provencal with delicious French dishes and fine wines, decorated with lavender, pots of violets and ears of wheat. The other, Russian with blinis, caviar and vodka, decorated with typical elements from there – traditional scarves, dolls… . We didn’t want to seat the guests, they were free to mingle and everyone loved it.

To decorate the photo booth area, we used photos from our childhood. The ceremony was supposed to take place in the garden but the rain changed our plans and we moved it to the small terrace, all covered in ivy, which made the ceremony even more intimate. The priest even managed to orchestrate a ceremony in two languages and gently guided us to say "I do" to thunderous applause.

Wedding planning
“We feel so blessed that it was our friends who helped make our wedding day unforgettable – Christophe, one of the best chefs in the area, cooked up some delicious food, Fred amazed the audience with his magic tricks and Owi got the dance floor on fire playing the saxophone. We were also very lucky to have Sabine, our genius designer, who scoured the entire Côte d’Azur for antique vases, barrels and beautiful tablecloths. I raided Etsy! We had the wedding we had imagined and more, a complete representation of us and the people we love.”
