Adélie Metayer, a wedding dress designer, gives us her valuable advice today to help future brides choose their civil wedding dress. Passionate about fashion, the Parisian designer shares her professional expertise with us.

Choosing your civil wedding dress, where to start?

“We start by letting ourselves dream! We go through wedding blogs (I love Madame C’s!), we get inspired, we listen to our personality. Why not take a look at Vogue.fr, to find out the most sought-after civilian looks.

You can also stroll on our Pinterest Adélie Métayer, I put lots of ideas for looks, makeup, hairstyles, classified by skin and hair color!

Once you've had your fill of beauty, choose the designer who shares your vision of beauty and your values!

At our place, we advocate spontaneous looks because a wedding is a celebration, looks that can be worn with panache! We invite you to feel beautiful, we offer to personalize everything because it is important that your personality is taken into account, and we manufacture everything in France, to showcase our local know-how.

Ready-to-wear or tailor-made, how to choose?

"With your values and also your budget! Today, the big ready-to-wear brands offer very pretty civil wedding outfits, but the experience and the look are a little impersonal. The custom-made dress is great, but we reserve it rather for THE DAY: the religious ceremony (or not)!

For civilian clothing, we offer you the BLUE collection. It's a whole dressing room for the bride, ready-to-wear, but made in our workshop and very customizable. I welcome you and advise you directly in our workshop at 14 rue des Bernardins, in Paris. Here everything mixes, it's up to us to play to compose your look!

The short, an essential?

“Short, long, noon, feel free! If you want to show off your pretty legs, go for it; the little Iris skirt will be perfect for you. Little bonus: pair it with pumps with slightly pointed toes that will really lengthen your legs. You can even wear shorts in winter by covering your legs with white polka dot tights.

We also love the midi length of the france skirt, with its super flattering straight cut for girls with hips, to mix with the indigo blouse or, the top Hydrangea ! The midi length is great if you have thin ankles, to wear with delicately lined shoes.

If you are hesitating between short and long and you have a strong character, then the azure dress is made for you! Short in front and long in the back, half rock and half traditional, to wear with gold jewelry, guaranteed wow effect.

Color, do we dare?

“Of course! You’re getting married, it’s a party!”

  • If you keep your hair natural and short, a beautiful carmine lipstick will suit you perfectly!
  • If you are very dark skinned, flamboyant earrings will look sublime on you. A bright pink, a bright red, or even gold like our long LOULOU curls.
  • If your skin is very light, you can warm it up with accessories in warm and soft colors like an old rose, a warm brown, an emerald green.

For the bouquet too, you can bring joy with, for example, deep blue hydrangeas or sunny yellow mimosa.
For a cool breeze, you can put your denim jacket over your dress, or a nice tailored jacket with a clean cut, either bright white or colorful and belted.

You will have understood, each girl has her flamboyant color! Besides, one color is enough; you can choose it according to that of your eyes, your hair and your skin, it will enhance the little white dress and you will be radiant.

If you hesitate too much, choose gold, which beautifies all women and always goes wonderfully with the little white dress.

And why not a suit or a jumpsuit?

“Everyone loves brides in pants! Few dare, go for it if that’s you! What’s more feminine than ultra-flowing, high-waisted pants that make your legs look huge and give you a bold, feminine look?

Our Ocean pants is cut like this; great on slim women and sublime on curvy women! You can mix it with all our tops, either in a jumpsuit version or in a top + pants version. If your waist is not marked, we will opt for a jumpsuit without a belt with the indigo top and its balloon sleeves. If you are petite, we will rather adapt Ocean with the top Cyclades which will gently dress your shoulders, and give you a delicate charisma by fleshing out your silhouette.

What are the trendy looks for this 2021 season?

"Don't follow trends to the letter! Your wedding dress is not a vulgar garment, it's more of a symbol. So listen to your personality, pamper her and show us who you are ! The big trends to adopt in 2021, in my opinion, would be optimism (yes yes), authenticity, daring to show your character! »

What place should be given to accessories?

“Essentials for a successful look! If you are tall, long earrings like our BIBI maxi will be perfect. If you have nice thick hair, you can slip a beautiful golden comb into it, like our GOGO. And why not a very short veil? It gives a pretty look while being less ceremonial than a long veil. We have one called KNOCK-KNOCK, for all those who are a little impertinent.

Some mistakes to avoid?

"Surely that of not listening to you enoughand of wanting to please everyone. You're getting married, it's time to fully embrace yourself ☺ This is why our BLUE collection is fully customizable!”

What is the average budget to plan for?

“All budgets are possible!” With us it's from €350 for the small piece that creates a strong look, to €1990 for the stylish maxi dress. ! You then choose a responsible approach, with fabrics made in France or from Europe, timeless pieces that you can wear again, and caring support at my side. We make all of this for you in France in 6 weeks! »

One last tip

« Listen to your feeling : surround yourself with service providers who share your values! Right now, more than anything, you need people who really listen to you.
